Suggestions for mass RB750 firmware updating and script configuring

All,

I’ve been pouring thru many posts, but I’m not having any luck yet trying to accomplish the following:

We have 500+ Mikrotik RB750Gv2 to deploy in the next 8 weeks. Want I want to do is automate this process as much as possible.

Stage 1 will be updating all RB750s to our v6.32.4 firmware standard. What I’d like to be able to do is set my config technicians up with a 24port Gig switch loaded with up to 24 RB750s and a Windows laptop connected to same switch to quickly push this firmware update to all connected fresh out of the box RB750s. Based on my readings, I have a test bed setup with a Cisco gig switch and three new RB750s and installed The Dude v4b3 on my windows laptop. It looks like The Dude can be used to do batch software updates. I also used a configured RG750 as a router/DHCP server set to 192.168.89.1/24. When I launch Dude, Devices/List shows my laptop as the Dude Server on 192.168.89.254, and the four RB750’s are displayed with their same subnet IPs. I double click on the RB750 router, set it up as “Router OS” and “Type = Mikro Tik Device” and change the User Name and Password to my settings, and it comes right up and connects in the Dude. However, I’m stuck with the next step: When I do the same Device config settings for the three “virgin” RB750s, the Dude fails to connect to any of them. It LOOKS like to me that the login process is failing - note that the three default RB750s have a blank password, and that seems to be the problem even though I delete / no entry in the Password field??? How has everyone else resolved this/get around this Dude connecting to fresh RBs that have the default login settings?

Stage 2 will be batch configuration of multiple RB750s: I am planning on trying FlashFig feature in NetInstall. I have two script files that I can create .rsc files out of and will see how successful this works. If there are other suggestions for bulk configuration I’m all ears..

Thanks much all !
David

Well, after a couple of mugs of coffee this morning, I believe I know why the connect function is failing in the Dude: The default configs on RB750s do not allow any logins on the WAN port due to no Firewall settings that allow port 80…! OK, so now the question is how is everyone who has used Dude to do bulk firmware updates setup the Discovery config to communicate with default RB750s???
