Support for Solos PCI ADSL2+ Modem - 4 Port

Does RouterOS v5 have support for the Solos PCI ADSL2+ Modem - 4 Port?
http://linitx.com/product/12607

The support site says that the driver is included in Linux 2.6.29 and I know that v5 uses 2.6.35

Has anyone tried this? If people don’t think it will work how would I go about getting the driver supported?

Thanks
Jamie

I’m also interested in this thank you.

We have currently 9 x DSL2 connections;

We’re using the DSL routers in bridge mode, etc - so you can imagine all the network cables, power cables and phone cables going to the rack where the DSL routers are (then to the routeros system).

If you could provide an update with this drive included, that would be appreciated (if not already supported).

RouterOS doesn’t support any ADSL PCI modems.

sure, but are there any intensions on supporting this interface in the near future? Although I’m new posting here, I’ve seen several threads of people who use DSL as their upstream service…

Currently we have no plans to add support for PCI ADSL cards, but we do have a plan to make a RouterBOARD with an ADSL port in the future.

Not to be a pain or anything, but if the linux version of ROS 5.5 uses a similar build to that of the driver of the PCI QUAD adsl port device (if what “jamiewatson69” said was true?), what would be the hold up with allowing this device to function? (essentially, an adsl link is like an ethernet link… to an extent?)
ROS has support for many wireless and ethernet based interfaces. I have only seen this PCI QUAD ADSL (there are probably more though)…

Is it that you would have to create a new menu/module (a bit like the wireless module and interface module) for ADSL? (in that case, if you were going to release a single port onboard ADSL routerboard, it would have that feature)
I’m trying to figure out what the hold up would be, or who to pay (obviously development takes time and human resources) to make this happen? - I personally would REALLY love this feature to be included in an update, considering how much less cabling there would be in our server room (and other issues, such as power packs to ADSL routers dieing. The extra latency… all adds up).

An ADSL interface on a routerboard would actually be nice though - I can see the sales of that being relatively successful. This, bundled into a unit with wireless and 4 ports + an extra ethernet WAN port would make serious competition on the corporate router side of things (I say this with the amount of businesses we do IT support for that have Draytek or CISCO routers).

Currently we have no plans to add support for PCI ADSL cards, but we do have a plan to make a RouterBOARD with an ADSL port in the future.

Hi Normis, this is excellent news. Can you give any indication on timelines when you think this might become available?

Thanks,
Nico

There is a pre-punched hole on the back of the RB751 enclosure. I would expect to see an RB751 with ADSL2/VDSL2 within the next year.

As long as it supports multiple VCI/VPI and PPPoA, RFC1483, PPPoE it will be a very good seller for Mikrotik.

Very good news. Infact I am waiting for this. I am already an ISP and I want to become a WISP.
I am doing products evalution and I can say that a mikrotik and separate adsl modem is not good because:

  • if mikrotik locks there is watchdog, but if the adsl modem locks???
  • two boxes, two power supplies so 4 thing that can break plus cables, etc.
  • I need to to solar powered installations and two boxes means double power consumption.

So I need to know when you will do this product, I for sure will buy many of them (100/1000, etc.)

Can you at least say if you plan to offer the adsl as a mini pci expansion board? So I can start buying some mikrotik unit knowing that in the future I can use them also as modems.

Thanks,
Mario
