For many years I have used various VPS and reseller services for the web hosting side of my business. I have decided to take the plunge and co-locate, and actually control my own hardware.
Despite 15 years in IT managing small business networks and onsite servers, I am totally at sea regarding data center hardware. I’m not talking about the servers themselves, but what switches/routers/KVM will be required.
So I ask for advice… I am running a hosting business, in a 1/4 rack, and hopefully plan to expand to a full rack. I also want to be able to do peering to other providers within the data centre later on.
What hardware should I get? (less the servers). I would prefer to stay with Cisco, as that seems the industry standard hardware, but I am open to other options.
