Hi there
I’m still new to Mikrotik…
I am looking into buying two pcs. CRS326-24S+2Q+RM
But before I do, I would like to have a bit of feedback on my suggested setup..
Basically I need two switches for redundancy, and I plan to use MLAG in order to link my storage systems and virtual hosts together in a redundant setup where we utilize both switches, and not like now where we use some basic switches and must rely on STP. I am pretty sure MLAG is the right setup for us here.
Another thing that we plan is a new firewall setup, and since Mikrotik can do both switching and routing/firewall on the same hardware, I think it could make sense?
As far as I can understand we can do switches at close to wirespeed as long as we use hardware offloading and as long as we do not configure anything on those ports that require CPU operations (like L3 routing)?
But wouldn’t it be possible to use one or two ports for internet links, the apply simple firewall rules and routing on them, and still use the remaining ports for switching?
And since we plan to have two switches, and we also have two internet providers, would it be possible to setup some kind of failover between the two if they are connected to each switch? Or would that be too much hacking, and should I just rely on the Mikrotik robustness and select one of the switches as the routing/firewall switch and connect both internet lines to it?
Input is very welcome ![]()
