Switching capability

I’m planning to setup a LAN with few CRS354 and CRS328 all PoE capable ( that’s why of 328 choice for 24ports switches) all linked by 10G sfp+
The only concern is about different switching capability between these two machines, 328 are rather old design….
Any thought ??

I’m not sure about what you mean by “different switching capability”?

If you look at test results (Switching → Non blocking Layer 2 throughput) you can see that both devices do wire-speed switching except for small frames (64-byte) where they peak at certain rate of packets (PPS). AFAIK switching capacity (the PPS limit) is per-switch (switching capacity of ASIC) and the throughput limitation (not achieving wire speed) for small packets could be there only when all switch ports are under full load simultaneously. Which in real life doesn’t happen often. And if not all ports are under full load, switch could well saturate single 10Gbps link even with small packets.

You can find details of the switching capabilities of the different switch chips here:

CRS328 doesn’t have L3 switching capabilities like the CRS354.

YEAH what a crappy way to make a request based on ZERO useful traffic flow requirements.
