Switching routers

Hey Guys, I have been running my 450G for many many years and I recently just picked up a 750GR3 and I have some questions about switching over. I am not a power user by any means but my 450G was from a time when there was no default settings for anything so I have to program all the firewall rules, NAT rules, bridging ports, DHCP servers etc. I also now have a bunch of other custom port forwarding rules and IP rules (including using one of the LAN ports as a separate network/VLAN for guests) so there is a lot to setup again.

So, my question is, can I just transfer my 450G router settings backup file over to the 750GR3 and load them up and have everything exactly the same or do I have to start from scratch again?

Also, if I do start from scratch should I just use the auto-setup feature for a router? (I have never used it before)

Thanks

P.S, the 450G is using the most current firmware/RouterOS version and I will make sure the 750GR3 is also up to date.

Definitely do not transfer backup file. Make export and import. Or you can use default config and start your changes from that point. I usually prefer to clean the config to have the router blank and make all the settings from that starting point in such case like yours.

Thanks for the quick replies guys, I will do some ready on the post and give it a go.

As already mentioned, don’t use backup and restore. make sure to do an export but be aware this won’t move your admin password over so make sure to set one!
