SwOS Port Loopback

I am trying to use an RB250GS to loopback Ethernet traffic on the same port, and I can’t seem to make it work…

The project concerns a point-to-multipoint radio network providing end-to-end layer 2 connectivity. The base station radio functions much like a Wireless Access Point. Behind the subscriber radios are applications that generate Ethernet multicast packets that - in addition to being sent to the LAN - are also retransmitted to other subscribers in the network. The base station does not currently provide this “loopback” functionality which means I need to echo packets back to the base station from the LAN.

I was hoping that the Port Forwarding or Mirroring features of SwOS would provide this functionality. I have the following connections to the RB250GS…

Port 2 : LAN
Port 3 : Base Station

I thought the simplest solution would be to set Port Forwarding as shown below, but it didn’t work…

Port 2 : Forwarded to Port 3
Port 3 : Forwarded to Ports 2 and 3

If the same port configuration is not valid, I wouldn’t expect it to be included in the Port Forwarding matrix of check boxes, so I’m not sure what it is intended to do.

I also experimented using another (dumb) switch connected to a third port on the RB250GS and tried to Port Mirroring the Egress traffic to that port back to port 3, but again without luck.

Any advice or insight would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Guy
