I’m looking to buy 2 SXT SA5 AC to create ptp link between 2 house that is aproximately 500-700m apart. Is there any drawback if i use SA5 AC instead of 5 AC? Will they work just fine? Is the sector antenna is okay for the ptp link?
I’m leaning toward the SA5 AC because my friend had 2 unused SA5 AC and will sell them to me under price of 5 AC.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I want to make a correction. Actually these 2 house is only about 150-200m apart.

“SXT SA 5 AC” has 90 degrees antenna while “SXT 5 AC” has 28 degrees with 2dBi more gain.
So, with “SXT SA 5 AC” you’ll get 4 dBm lower signal and more interference but at such short distance that shouldn’t be a big problem. In theory, it should work almost the same with both models.

It will work nicely. Be sure you have clear LoS.

You might want to turn the SXT-SA 90 degrees.
This will turn the Beamwidth from horizontal 90° to vertical 90°. This makes you PtP-link more interference resistant, because it is unlikely to have neighboring WiFi below or upwards…
Rotation does not make any sense, more than that it is harmful. You can help water to leak in. The reason mentioned by sup5 is false because the device is dual chain with twopolarization antenna.
Polarisation is not the same as a radiation pattern. Just open the device and have a look by yourself. You’ll see, why…
The Radiation pattern of the SXT-SA5 is more wide and less tall than the radiation pattern of the SXT-5.
Thus the rotation by 90° will make the beamwidth more narrow in the horizontal direction, which in reward will catch up less noise.
If there are concerns about water due to turning the device, I am sure these are easily circumvented…
Can u explain this more in detail? Do i turn the sxt 90 degrees upward horizontally from normal position? [emoji2]

The question is that if it is anyhow important at such distance..
Dont use Antennas with bigger angle Then you Need
You only will pick UP Noise!
@jarda:
After reading the posts again:
Yeah, for such a short distance my proposal isn’t relly important. It seems more ‘academic’.

I fully agree. Nowadays I always recommend LHG5 for any cheapish link. No matter how short the link might be.
I only use SXTs if appearance, available space, or a wide beamwidth are of concern.
I’m looking to get the max possible bandwidth ac can offer and of course i want the gigabit port too, i’m getting sxt sa5 ac because someone offer me them fairly cheap, even cheaper than standard sxt 5 ac.
That being said, you guys said it might pick up interference noise etc. Is it that bad?

It all depends on
- your country’s regulations
- your RF neighborhood (eg. how much RF pollution already is present)
etc.
So your mileage may vary…
