Does anyone have suggestions on how to get proper performance from a pair of SXTsq 5 ac radios on a short ptp link? I’ve been testing these on the bench while waiting for acceptable weather to go up my tower (severe thunderstorms practically every day lately) and I’ve not been able to get anything near the expected performance of ~800+Mbit.
Overview of my testing:
I have an iperf server running on a Centos 7 system on my local network a couple switches away from my test bench. I’m using a laptop with Win7 for testing with iperf client. Direct Ethernet connect to the local switch I consistently get about 900Mbit throughput. Connected to the same switch with the SXTsq 5 ac radios bridging the best I have seen is 299Mbit with the radios sitting on the table a few inches apart. Moving them further apart, even just a few feet the performance drops.
Testing on a rain free but windy day I put one radio on my tower about 15’ up and connected it to a different switch that is one closer to my core switch where the iperf server is. I put the other radio on a 15’ pole about 750’ away from the tower (as far as I can readily get a clear line on the ground) and did further testing. With this setup I got -60/-60 dBm signal strength, Tx/Rx CCQ 96/75%, 46 dB snr and only 46Mbit as the best performance.
This is a very low RF noise rural area with no RF sources outside my control for thousands of feet in any direction. The link I’m intending these radios for is right at 2,000’ between a tower and a pole at 60’ AGL. For reference the tower has two other links on it, one older UBNT PB M2 400 getting 30Mbit+ on a 9 mile link and another with Mimosa C5c/RF Elements dish getting 350Mbit on a 4.5 mile link (these links are at 70’ on the tower).
My expectation for this SXT is that is should be able to get a lot closer to its max throughput than I’m seeing. Suggestions on what may be wrong?
