RouterOS Beginner Basics

I was trying to make the configuration as Router and tried using the web-proxy-test
software. To make it work I did go through lot of support forum url and was throughly
confused for the configuration.

Before the system lockup this were the few things i did:

A) Since my browsing was working fine for http urls and not working for https, I tried to
do transperant proxy using ip proxy software, but referring to this url:
Difference between IP PROXY and IP WEB-PROXY I enabled web-proxy-test

B) After enabling this I tried to configure it, but still browsing for https didnt start (even in
transparent proxy mode) I switched it back to ip proxy After this switch whenever i
switch on the box i get this message on the console of router while booting :

Now I tried rebooting the box several times but no success.

My queries are :

A) Is there any way to revive the system ?
B) I believe i can use the same software license which i paid for ?
C) If i re-install the OS, i shall get again a new Id, so what happens with the license
key then ?

Use “netinstall”.

Hi GotNet,

So I have to connect the affected Hard drive on to my windows box and use NetInstall ?

Are there any special instructions to follow during the NetInstall ?

Hi,

I added my affected HDD on to the windows box, but the partition doesnt get recognized in NetInstall binary, so eventually, cant install the software on to it.

More over my old PIII box doesnt have facility to boot over ethernet. and both of them doesnt have any floppy drive as well :frowning:

Any help on the subject would be appreciated.

how about a CD drive then, also not available? You can CD install as well, if you check the “keep old config” box.

CD install works well, I did my first last week when I didn’t have any other method in the field. But if you slave the HD in a system to netinstall I think you need to mark the partition active first.

CD install / Net Install both gave me a trailing long screen of Formatting Disk … (atleast 20 - 25 lines) after which i get the error: Install Error, Press ENTER to reboot.

Any ways I got it fixed by Re-installing the whole thing on a new HDD and got a new key from Normunds for this installation.

BTW, I shall post one more thread, on my PPPoE Client config, it doesnt seem to work somehow on Mikrotik.
