It’s a shame when things work…
I think that’s a great way to start a discussion about technological evolution, especially when it results in not meeting the need.
I’ve been out of the Mikrotik loop (wireless) for a few years, so it came as a surprise to me when a long time customer reached out to expand some of their networks. The last time I had touched these, RB433AH’s were fresh and loaded with 3.30! What I’ve found though, is that the capability these platforms supported simply doesn’t exist anymore. Once upon a time, we had a plethora of radio selections and it appears those have simply went away. This particular customer used 900mhz and 3.5ghz radios. With the change to minipcie, it appears no one supports these bands anymore.
Luckily, I’ve been able to scrounge around and find a stack of 433s, as well as some SR9s and XR3s from yesteryear, to get the customer what they need.
Isn’t it interesting that 3.30 still delivers on hardware that is 10 years old? The current crop of hardware… I wouldn’t buy. Not enough interfaces for my applications.
I’ll add that I do run an RB750g3 as a firewall, but a 433 sits right next to it, and has been pressed into service recently when a firmware update didn’t go right - and it’s still running 3.30 as well.
