Hi folks.
I got a fibre connection a week ago. Telecom supplied me with a Huawei HG630b and I can use that for a basic connection easily enough. However, I have a server on the local net and the Huawei won’t let me connect to the websites on that server. I.E. 192.168.1.1 takes me to the "default generic page that Apache gives you. If I try to go to http://domain.on.my.server/ - nope, won’t do it. Hairpin doesn’t seem to work. I should add that on my old ADSL Linksys router it worked perfectly.
So… I went and bought an RB2011UAS-2HnD-IN and very nice it is too. I printed out a copy of http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Initial_Configuration and started working through it. Can I get it to connect? Can I hell and I’m at the hair-pulling-out stage
My question, therefore, is does anybody have a different tutorial that might give me another way of looking at how to configure it?
Thankies.
Simon.

Is it the internet that you’re having specific problems connecting with, or is it internal hosts? Can you be more specific?
If you’re using HTTP to configure your router you might find it a little bit easier using the Winbox software that Mikrotik provides.
The instructions that you linked to use DHCP for the WAN connection. I’m not sure what it’s like in NZ, but here in Australia most ISPs use PPPoE to provide you with an IP address, you’ll need to check this with your ISP. The post above by fallenwrx illustrates a PPPoE client configuration through the CLI.
hi,
yes it is a PPPoE dialer interface on VLAN 10
Thanks
Rob
Yes, it’s PPPoE on VLAN 10 but I’ve got a static IP, just to complicate matters. I’ve tried umpteen variations on peoples suggestions and got nowhere so far.
Hi ya,
Static IP is not a problem as you do not have to specify it on the interface, if you are able to provide remote access to the router i can show you how to configure the Interface, where abouts in NZ are you? im in Wellington.
Thanks
Rob
Not a million miles from me then. I’m in Paraparaumu.
I’m currently connected with Telescum’s 'orrible little Huawei box. If you don’t mind helping that’d be totally awesome! Perhaps we can chat on the phone or something so I can set the thing up so you can see it. I’m guessing I can send you a message via this forum with details in it and I’ll do that now.
Simon.
Damn! I can’t send messages.
04 298 1180 is my landline and 021 274 6664 is my mobile. More than happy to call you though; I pick up the bill then.
yup no worries will touch base tomorrow
