im curious what are the best options or best method for terminating fiber is it best to do it in a seperate fiber box then patch it to the CRS318-1FI-15FR-2S-OUT?
If anyone has photos of what they have done would be quite interested these units are pretty good just could do with more space and slice holder of some description?
IMO it's best to terminate FO cable properly ... either exterbal box or patch panel. And then use short patch cable to connect device.
FO cables are fragile, specially with all the shielding stripped off (which is required for terminating them) and are really not suitable for frequent or radical moves. Patch cables are somehow in the middle between full FO cable (with all the shielding in place) and bare fibres (stripped off of shielding, needed for splicing/termination) as they are pretty flexible and yet still decently shielded.
I recommend to get a pro to do the splicing/termination, that's almost impossible to do properly without right equipment ... which is too expensive to purchase for only a small job.
What do you want to do? That device has only 2 SFP cages so you need only 2 FO cables to be terminated. Where do they come from?
For me the easiest way do connect that device is to use already finished drop cables that you can order with needed connectors already installed. Such cables are not the external ones with additional protection but they are quite resistant to modest usage - not expecting disconnecting/connecting they a few times every day..
As this is an outdoor device (or claimed to be at least), patch cables are most certainly not adequate.
IMHO for outdoor boxes like this, Mikrotik should /really/ integrate a small 4 slot tray for splices.
