I have private link on RB333 and R52 cards using AP/Client mode.
Signal -54 to 50dB , 93-95% CCQ, 60-80% CPU load
Testing two modes>
802.11a wirelless protocol any 40MHz modulation
Testing link on UDP it shows simplex 42Mbit stable performance
Real life troughput 36-38Mbit TCP on heavy trafic in the air, on weekend morning up to 41Mbit
Instant full speed accessible on demand
802.11a wirelless protocol nv2 40modulation
Testing link on UDP it shows simplex 62Mbit stable performance
Real life troughput 22-28Mbit TCP not more
Speed starts to climb slowly after demand, but never over 28,6Mbit
Why i see so big difference between test and real life troughput, and what is wrong?
Can someone help me? Please give me some instruction waht to do, what to test, what report do you need for better understanding the problem.
how are you doing those tests?
Check the CPU level on the RB333 when you are doing the throughput.
Try to increase the tdma-period-size maybe a little bit and check again.
“Link tests” are done on RB itselfs using BTest Server / Bandwith test and UDP
“Real life test” are done like troughput traffic from our web servers to my personal computer using single or multitask downloads from FTP or WWW sever.
Ok i made some actual tests from outside of the link, so i cant give numbers from “real life test”
Only thing that is changed on the setup is the wirelless protocol from “any” to “nv2”.
RB BTest
802.11 … 45,3Mbps CPU87/96
nv2 … 71,5Mbps CPU70/98-100 (TDMA period Size 2)
nv2 … 77,4Mbps CPU70/95-100 (TDMA period Size 3)
nv2 … 77,5Mbps CPU70/91-98 (TDMA period Size 4)
Changing TDMA-period-size makes some small difference in BTest and also in real troughput, but like you said “little bit”
I’ll go home now and test the real troughput again.
So the real troughput
802.11 … 38,5 CPU 79/100
nv2 … 21,2 CPU 29/63 (TDMA period Size 2-4, no difference)
looks like the 40Mbit is something like top of possible on the RB333, but the nv2 is no near to this barier, like the CPU is not on the 100load.
and the question again, what i am missing ?
And the second question is: will something drasticly change using 802.11N cards ? Is the problem just in the “old” R52 card and the R52N will solve it ? Yes i can change the RB333 for new RB433AH, but will it solve the problem with nv2 ?
I want to find whats wrong on this difference between test and real result. We dont have possibility to test real troughput on each AP remotly. And if i would see the +70Mbit test, i would expect +50Mbit of traffic, but there will be unexpected problem starting at 25Mbit load and this will end with unhappy customers.
tests on RB itself do not reflect anything near real-life! you are just straining the RB333 CPU by the Btest program, nothing else. These results mean nothing.
proper way of testing is [Client]---->[Router]-----[Router2]-----[Server] just like in real life. In “real life” router is not generating thousands of random packets on itself.
Thank you, but your answer didnt help me in any way.
I am testing it this way:
Internet - BGP router - OSPF router - Vlan switch - Mikrotik AP - Client AP - switch - My Computer
Lets throw away the RBTest and simplify my question:
Why is nv2 slover than 802.11 protocol ? Same hardware, same time, same noise, everything identical, just another wirelless protocol. What is wrong on my case.
Thank you, and looking forward about your analysis.
BTW: 2x 433AH + 52N cards in 20MHz with and working excelent , over 100 clients simple qued clients and up to 25Mbit going trough it without any trouble.

we received loads of emails to non-existing email addresses from this IP address, more than 120 emails came. So, check if your email server is not open to spammers. Use another email address (gmail?) to contact us.
No, this server is not open. We control smtp mail try, and if one client will open more than 10smtp connections in 5minutes we block his IP. Can you send me more info about this “more than 120 emails came”, we like to find the trouble makers. No i dont have any email accounts outside of my server or our domains.
