tests on the 133c and 133 routerboard

i have been doing some tests on the 133c and 133 routerboard
due to the 100% cpu usage

and found somthing intrusting

i found that if its in a smallerbox and running 12v the box getts hot and the cpu goes up to avarage 100%
then i used a bigger box with 12v

and cpu goes to avarage 80% but comes down faster

then i but it in 24 v
with a small box and wow the temp drops alot and thats logic(less cuurrent usage)
got avarage 70% usage

and now 24v with a big box avagrage
40% usage

i did the test in two ways

  1. did the test with 1 board that was flashed and reinstalled via serial cable

2)did the test with 4 diffrent boards flashed and reinstalled via serial cable

hope this helps people with problems

but thats my tests now i wanted to know cant mikrotik brake up the packeges on the 133 and 133c even more

like
wol will have its own package

pptp vpn

pppoe

dhcp server
dhcp client
etc…

as this will help alot with the new verisons

The temperature drops a lot with a higher voltage power supply? That is not consistent with electronics theory, unless the device is not supplied with adequate voltage. If you double the voltage, the current should be half. Watts (volts x amps) is what causes heat. I am running a 133 in a small box with a 12v supply, and it is running cool with a cpu usage of 2%. Are you certain that the full 12v is reaching the router?

yes direct connection to board

That answers part of the question…and the voltage at the power pin is 12v? Sometimes equipment malfunctions, including power supplies. Are you are certain it is still supplying enough current to maintain 12v?

Is this just a normal setup? If you are testing, I will presume low traffic on the router. Any radios onboard? Even 40% cpu is high for mine under traffic load. Granted, I do not have it installed in a high traffic site, but still…dhcp, dns, ntp, hotspot, firewall filters, etc are running on it.

what os version you running on?

me 4.3

My bad! I run 2.9.51. But that still does not explain the “reduction in heat/increase in performance” with the increase in voltage.

I found the 3.x versions did not perform well at all on the 133. I imagine the 4.x version has the same challenge.

3 didnt work well at all but thats why the test as i have 6 boards on 4.3 and 6 on 2.9

same thing exept the heat in th boxes

im going to monitor this a bit more

see what i can find you should try 4.3 works well
