The dreaded basement & a thanks!

Hi!

I wish I discovered the Mikrotik platform a decade earlier. It would have saved me a lot of headaches & money. Tons of value for a fair price without bullshit - thanks for doing business like it should be done!

I’ve already spend hours learning RouterOS & wireless technology in general and think I’m ready to tackle a problem of mine. I used to have my apartment connected to my basement over power line. Worked OK until my neighbors had a similar Idea. I had a second AP in there to connect a lot of IOT WIFI toys with really shitty antennas.

The distance to the basement is not too bad but obviously there are thick walls & heavy metal doors. Some devices can actually connect to my main AP in my apartment (hAP ac), so I think a WIFI solution might be possible. I don’t need a ton of bandwidth just a stable connection.

Due to the terrible conditions I think it’s a good Idea to use a different SSID in the basement. I don’t want the clients to interfere too much with the connection/channel to my main AP or get confused to which AP to connect to. Ideally I want the devices to use the DHCP server in my main hAP. Is using an mAP in station-bridge mode the right solution here?

Thanks!
