The Dude v1.0rc8: Discovery and networks.

I can make discovery of the network, but it will not make a new network and add connections between the nodes.

Does it need MikroTik router as a gateway?
I ask it because the 2 times it did work, the gateway box was a MikroTik router.

Also, is the Dude capable of detecting routers?
What I mean is there a way to have one device with multiple addresses attached to it and then show links to various subnets.

Image of my network according to The Dude:

It is not very informative, I think…

Dude can get network information only from SNMP enabled devices and your servers local ip addresses

OK, but what is the proper way of describing routers?
Just two-three-… devices connected with lines or is it possible to use a single device?
http://ragana.sauenet.ee/minu_vork2.pdf

as you can see in device properties window you can add multiple ip addresses
per device - routers usually have more than one. Dude server will use first
address to poll routers own services, but like told before automatic
discovery will add devices with multiple ip addresses only if that particular
device has SNMP. Otherwise it will add multiple seperate devices for each ip
address.

OK, I’ll look into it.

A little OT, but why not use the traceroute functionality for router detection?
It will be relatively easy to use traceroute to find out all routers in a network and there is no need for the SNMP at all.
