Timeframe for full release of Version 3

Hi there
I recently upgraded from 2.9.46 to 3.0rc6 and my RB532 went from being a rock solid super reliable platform to having some occassional problems, especially with PPPoE interfaces.
I accept and understand that I have installed a a release candidate version of the OS and don’t have an issue with that. The question I have however is that the downgrade process back to 2.9 isn’t trivial and I am weighing up whether to just put up with the occassional problems or go through the downgrade.
I’d appreciate it if the guys at Mikrotik could give an indication of when the final release of Version 3 is due, or if they are not able to say that explain the process that leads to that decision so that I can make my own judgement about time frames.
Thanks
Richard

they won’t / can’t commit to any particular timeline, it’s just not possible. however by my estimate on the progress of v3 and testing of it and since it came out as beta 1, I would estimate there are at least 3 or 4 more RC’s that will come out before it’s formal release, and then probably another 5 to 10 releases before it is as stable as 2.9 currently is… the post release delay to stable is due to the fact that many people will not even try v3 until after it is in a stable release, and that means that a select few of us are trying to work out and identify the bugs in the current releases for all given situations, and most of us that are, are doing much of the testing from lab, or small scale live test nodes, which just isn’t realistic to expect that we, or the develpers will identify all the bugs pre-release…

and on a side note Normis, PLEASE FIX THE MEMORY LEAK ON THE 532’s WITH THE NEXT RC, I’M GOING INSANE!!! (thanks)

great post, Forepoint!

Thanks Forepoint

You’ve summed the process up fairly well and that gives me enough info to make a judgement about what to do.

Keep up the good work on the testing

Richard

does this mean the memory leak will be fixed in v3rc7??? PLEASE!!! 18-22hrs of uptime between running out of memory on our test APs is getting rather tiresome…

did you send supouts to support ?

of course, as well as followup details about cpu load and memory utilization graphs…

just haven’t heard back from Uldis on this in a few days…
