To sergejs.

Dear sergejs,

I have full faith on you about MT OS related knowledge that’s why I have some questions but those are so basic that anyone could laugh at me  . But I have to clear my self, ok let me start.

  1. If I mark packet in mangle with out marking connection mark what will be the problem or difference, cause I saw some mark connection and mark packet bytes are not same in a mangle marking(like http connection mark n mark packet byte) and btw it happens in ver 3. Then I make only the packet marking for http and it’s working like before I mean as with mark connection then mark packet. Can you tell me what should I do? Do I have to mark connection first then mark packet for a rule?

  2. What is the difference between prerouting and postrouting chain? Like for SMTP marking what chain shoud I use? I have put forward chain for SMTP and that’s works fine and I had test with prerouting chain also and it worked also, so please help me understand about those chains (Prerouting n postrouting).

  3. Please let me know what kind of chain I should use for those rules:
    a. http.
    b. smtp.
    c. pop3.
    d. icmp. and
    e. p2p

It’ll be very very helpful to me if anyone explain those rules to me.

BTW I used layer 7 protocols for some rules.

Thanks n regards

H Zahid

please see this link and you will get some understanding about when packet is at what place and what is done to that packet afterward.

Thanks a lot Janisk.

Dear janisk,

Those docs are little complicated for me, can you please give some simple answars to my questions, it’ll be very helpful.

Thanks a lot

The Docs are very good. If you do not understand them, I would suggest taking a MT training class, or hiring out a consultant. There are many out there.

Then what is this forum for!!??

Is there none to answer my questions? Come on guys please just give me a hand. :frowning:
