Sometimes I notice traffic rate on my rb3011 drops to 0, don’t know if is something real or is just winbox acting up. But, if I reboot the unit then everything seems to show correctly.
As you can see on the images below, the traffic graph looks like there is intermittent.
It’s been a while since this was posted, but in case the OP or anyone else sees this in the future, I have just observed similar behaviour on an RB1100AH.
I observed the Tx/Rx bandwidth periodically dropping to 0bps on some, but not all interfaces. Initially it was every 10-15s, but after a reboot became worse to about every 3s.
Using Tools - Profile, I was able to see that CPU 1 was at 100% utilisation, but CPU 0 only about 5%.
Looking in detail at CPU 1, the “telnet” process was running at around 85%. We have Firewall rules to block all external Telnet traffic, so looks like something internal went rogue and has been hitting this router.
Disabling telnet in Services and rebooting seems to have resolved the issue. Somewhat strange though that one CPU being heavily utilised and the other very light should cause problems. I would have thought that processes should have been more evenly split or diverted to the lower utilised CPU.
Whilst the root cause of the problem might be different for other people, using Tools - Profile is a very useful way to determine what is causing excessive CPU loading.
