Tower Cabling Choice?

All variables considered… Outdoor elements (Sun/Head/Cold/Rain), what are you guys using for your tower cabling?

This is particularly for a new tower install. I need to this cable to last long… maybe CAT6a?

Thoughts?

Shielding / UV resistance is probably more important for outdoor use. Ubiquiti have a product which looks good: https://www.ui.com/accessories/toughcable/

How long is your cable way?

  1. category has nothing to do with quality of the jacket. Look for outdoor-rated cables.
  2. if you plan to use POE over long cable, make sure that you choose cable with pure copper wires (often there are copper-aluminium wires) and as much of them as possible (lower AWG = more wires in each strand = less resistance = better for POE)
  3. if there are some other antennas or other sources of interference, make sure you use shielded cable. This is even more important if you run it all the way next to 230V power cable.
  4. Conduit and plastic covers can shield your cable from sun and rain and prolong its life.

250ft?
