okay what is happening here?
I set up an IP of 10.50.5.1 for an sr5 card and used the winbox tools (when I am logged into the RB232) to do a tracert to the IP.
I get a long list of private AND public IPs on the provider’s network. So I have to assume that the tracert from the router only goes out the public gateway and there is no way to do a trace behind the gateway?
Then I tried doing a tractrt to a private IP like 192.168.1.2 and the thing actually replied with a complete trace right through the public gateway, but the hop IPs were different.
So:
-
Am I correct that the router trace tool only works out the public gateway?
-
is there a way to trace the wireless LAN private IPs?
-
How can a trace go all the way to a private IP that does not reside on our network? Is there a user out there on the provider’s public network that has their NAT table wide open? I still don’t see how the trace can return a private IP range intermixed with the public IPs
Thanks
