Traffic Flow Source IP Address

I was testing Mikrotik’s Traffic Flow feature and just not working! After hours of checking and … I found out that RouterOS sends out Traffic Flow data packets to the specified target using one of my private IP addresses (of course it is set on one of interfaces) which is not routed and does not go out to internet and my target on the other hand is located on internet. I tried to fix the problem with some mangle rules and packet markings and also source nat and they were all partially successful. But it seems to be a good idea to add a source IP address to use in Traffic Flow target definitions so in a complex-IP-engineered situation like ours, so admins can easily choose a source IP address for those outgoing Traffic Flow data packets (like the one in ping and traceroute).

check Pres. Source in used routes

I’ve been waiting for YEARS for the “specify source” feature and they still havent done it.

However, the above post is the next best thing - using preferred source on the IP route (static route) did the trick.

Ahh,

You can set the source IP for traffic flow from the CLI, it’s just not in winbox.

It IS in Winbox for some time already
