Transparent Bridge itself can't access the internet

I have an RB-750 setup on a network between a router and the LAN. I would prefer to use the RB-750 as the router and eliminate the current router (Belkin) but it’s a long story.

The RB-750 is working great as a transparent bridge and everyone’s noticed the benefit from the fairness queuing and traffic prioritization which is why it was installed.

The problem is I can’t ping from the RB-750 to the internet, and because there’s no internet access for the RB-750 the SNTP client doesn’t work and my RB-750 is stuck back in 1970 with the funny clothes and haircuts.

The clients on the LAN are getting to the network just fine.

One issue may be that the LAN network is 192.168.0.1/24 but the router is on 192.168.0.2. It’s the way it was and even though I’m the tech for the network I’m just a guest (again, a long story).

Any ideas what I could do to get the RB-750 able to access the internet? I’m afraid to turn on the DHCP client for the port facing the router just because I’m worried (probably without reason) about it’s IP address changing.

It’s not a DNS issue because I can’t ping a known good internet IP address from the RB-750.

Thanks!
Greg

Hi

long story short - what about learning about how TCP/IP works and configuring dhcp client on bridge interface or assigning IP to bridge interface in “/ip address” and default gateway in “/ip routes”.

Yeah, well, that’s what I’m doing. The sarcasm only slows the process.

Actually explaining what you mean would help people learn. Pure sarcasm only hinders the process and greatly reduces the value of this forum. I guess in a way you’re actually hurting MT when you act disrespectful of forum users because you’re reducing the value of the forum to the users.

I found the answer over on the WISPA Mikrotik forum. Usually the guys there respond faster, and with a better attitude. It was the issues you spoke of. I needed to make all ports have the same IP address for the transparent bridge to be configured properly though it was working fine and that wasn’t the real issue. What actually got it going was a default route for 0.0.0.0/0 pointing to the router. I also added DNS server entries so the RB-750 could resolve addresses if needed. Now the SNTP client is working and I can ping the internet from the RB-750

I’m guessing you’ve probably just started your weekend partying early and are already a bit tipsy or maybe you had a bad week.

Hi,

you are not n00b here from number of posts, so may be you might notice that questions with relevant portions of configuration and/or network diagram have better answers. It’s really unnecessary to have first answer to post request for more info as fewi is frequently posting.

You got me again. I guess you’re the one on the forum that doesn’t post anything helpful but points out what everyone is doing wrong?

One “helpfull” hint: no need guessing, click on my profile button and have look. Or you reflecting my disabled karma?

EDIT: and may be instead of whinning about my attitude for forum you can do better if you post about solution to you problem. Was my answer right?
