Two networks, with 2 internet connections.

Hi all.

I have a fairly complex situation I’m dealing with here.
I work in an educational environment, and we have 2 networks, both with internet access.
One being the school’s own internet connection. The other being the free internet service offered by the Western Cape Education department, which is actually faster than our own internet, however unfortunately is censored. I have fed the network from Network 2 into the same switch that serves the school, as it’s not a problem due to the fact that network 2 lacks DHCP.

Network 1 is 192.168.1.0/24 (255.255.255.0) - Our own.
Network 2’s gateway is 10.4.83.179, (255.255.255.192) - Department

Network 1 is our default network, and due to the DHCP configuration switched on, all devices here pick up network 1 when connected.
Network 2, we need to manually enter DHCP settings, and proxy server settings into each device wanted, on the department network
The settings are as follows.

IP Ranges allocated: 10.4.83.17x-10.4.83.191
Gateway:10.4.83.129
DNS1:10.0.241.226
DNS2:10.0.241.238
Proxy Server:
proxy.wcgschools.gov.za
3128

Network 2 is currently for the desktops only, due to the lack of DHCP, and people cannot use their laptops at home with Network 2’s info manually entered, as they are then unable to browse the internet at home, what I would like to do, is to roll out Network 2 slowly via a Multi SSID solution. SSID1 Let’s call it “Vera IT Department”, would be Network 1. DHCP, and all. Network 2, let’s call it “Department Wireless” Will be Network 2, ideally with DHCP, and proxy settings all in one, so there would be no need to reconfigure the network settings each time, a new network is connected. Network 1, and 2 will be COMPLETELY separate of one another, besides the fact that the same switch is being used for the network traffic. One of my biggest fears is a mess up with DHCP, due to the fact that 2 networks are running, and are accessible via all machines via the correct means.

I have a Mikrotik RB750 I am using to test implement all this. Once I know I have a virtualAP working here, I will then roll the settings out onto another slightly more older, but more powerful Mikrotik device.

I kindly await your responses.

Cheers.

Paul,

send me your contact info, and i will help with the config.
