Hello.
I ve got 2 identical wap ac.
Both wap ac has got same configuration:
wlan2 (5ghz) : managed by CAPSMAN,
wlan1 (2.4ghz) : disabled.
CAPSMAN configured with:
-2 different channels 5 ghz with different frequences, tx power 13dbm;
-2 different configurations with channels mentioned above;
-provisioning configured to manage 2 different wap ac mentioned above with 2 different configurations mentioned above.
Result: first wap ac:
— managed by CAPsMAN
— channel: 5180/20-Ce/ac/P(13dBm), SSID: ***, CAPsMAN forwarding second wap ac:
— managed by CAPsMAN
– channel: 5220/20-Ce/ac/P(11dBm), SSID: ***, CAPsMAN forwarding
Why 1 of 2 wap ac gets tx power 11 instead of 13 ?
Ive tried to change tx power in channels mentioned above. Very strange - when I set up 12 dbm, first cap gets 12 dbm , second gets 10 dbm.
Look into the configuration of the wireless card of waps (not capsman) : one of the should have “Antenna Gain” different from the other one and you can change it.
I allways reset to default the caps before joining to capsman.
ok, antenna-gain was removed from GUI since 6.46.8 (great !).
Command line only.
Found some information: Even for CAPSMAN managed caps “…only 2 values are taken from the local interface configuration: antenna-gain and antenna-mode”
Printing out params when capsman enabled does not print anttena-gain (wonderful!).
I switched off capsan.
Started terminal.
typed:
/interface wireless> print advanced
There was antenna gain=2 for both wlan1 & wlan2.
Trying to set :
set antenna-gain=0
numbers:0
the result:
failure: minimal antenna-gain for this country is 2
Cool !
The country is set as “etsi”. This is after reset !
Ok, set up country.
Set up gain 0 (twice !!!)
set antenna-gain=0
numbers:0
This produces antenna gain 0 ONLY for wlan 1.
set antenna-gain=0
numbers:1
This finally sets antenna gain 0 for wlan 2.
Antenne gain is not removed from the GUI without a reason: all devices with fixed antennas have fixed gain. It only should be set manually when an external antenna is used (with corresponding gain). I doubt that value 0 is correct in your case… Antenna gain was missused in the old days, nowadays you can set transmission power (to decrease output). Also make sure that the correct country code is selected to obey regulations.
“antenna gain” is a correction factor for the TXpower (relative setting) . It has nothing to do with the physical antenna gain, except it’s name and default (minimum) value.
MT removed the possibility for relative power setting. Do the math yourselves after collecting country and device limitations. (Or after checking the used TXpower when set to default.)
Did you set the “antenna gain” as relative parameter before the upgrade? It will be invisible now. Correct it with CLI.
For 2 WAP ACs:
I ve made hardware reset by button.
I did firmware update and then firmware upgrade.
These simple steps I did for both WAP ACs before any further activities.
Got no idea why hardware reset produces different results with different WAP ACs.
No, this is not the end.
Just took NEW hap ac2.
Initially region = etsi, antenna gain = 3.
Factory firmware 6.47, so no possibility to set antenna-gain thru GUI.
