Hello,
I’ve just installed 3 p2p link with RB600 with XR5 cards and in all link I can establish it only if I set tx-power upper 15 dBm or if I set tx-power to default (I have 32 db antenna and distance is about 15 Km). I read on web that XR5 cards have an offset of 10 dBm and so if I set 10 dBm on tx-power, XR5 works at 20 dBm and that Mikrotik routerOS doesn’t manage it (http://www.ubnt.com/downloads/ubi_mtik_power.pdf) : is it correct?
Problem is that with default tx-power or 15 dBm tx-power and a 32 dbi antenna the total power is too much for italian law! Could you help me please?
Nice investigation ) but Ubnt forget note - what RouterOS he use on test setup. I have that experience like all tx power default values on different Router OS is not same.
If you set XR5 to TX power to <15 the transmitter of the card will not function correctly (I have never investigated why but I thought the XR5 used a 10dB internal amplifier and it had something to do with that). You can easily repeat this in a lab setup.
I haven’t tested the XR5’s in any other OS (eg. StarOS, or IkarusOS) to find out if they have the same issue or if its a RouterOS issue.
I far as I know there really is nothing you can do atm.
I try to contact Ubiquiti support (bad support) but they tell me that they are not able to replicate problem and that they think it is a RouterOS problem.
I have this problem in all my PP link with XR5 cards!
I think I have to substitute all my XR5 cards with r52!
