Ubiquiti SR5 connectors...

Hi All

on SR5 there are two connectors: one is the main (u.FL) and the other one is the AUX connector (MMCX). I was wondering if it’s better to use the AUX connector considering that the AUX connector looks mechanically more roboust. So my questions are:

  1. should I set something into the router os to be sure that AUX connector is used instead of the main connector? How do I check which one is used?
  2. should I use the main and never, never, never use the AUX?
  3. Anyone has an idea what is the AUX used? (diversity I guess, but what else?)

Thank you

Open the wlan interface and click the advanced tab.
You will see > antenna mode: antennaB
antennaB is for the MMCX
antennaA is for the u.FL

Ubiquiti tech told me that ether one is fine.

Yea, it shouldn’t make any difference as to the connector. I personally prefer the MMCX because it is quite a bit more rugged. Also, I think there is a tad bit less RF loss over the UFL. And I do think that it supports diversity, but I’m not sure if Mikrotik supports diversity on it. (I’m remembering some past posts, correct me if I’m wrong).

Eric

thank you it worked nicely

Anyone using two antennas on these cards? (one for RX and another for TX)

Anyone using two antennas on these cards? (one for RX and another for TX)

hi ,

already tried using 2 antennas on these cards, but seems it fail to function… dunno wats da problem…

hum…well I will try to test it asap and see what happens

I may be wrong, but I don’y think these cards support deversity.
If you want to have two antennas on one card you will need to use a splitter.

I am not interested in diversity, just wanted to use one antenna for RX and another for TX.

I think it is one or the other, not both.
Hmmm, are you in an area that limits the antenna size/gain?
I’m not sure what it is you will accomplish with two antennas, It will still be half duplex.

But you were thinking in the right direction .

Using separate antennas for RX and TX allows you to use BIG “ears” without “shouting” so loud that your regulatory body will get angry

Aha ! I see.
So it’s tiny mouth and big ears. LOL so this type of setup should be called the Micky Mouse. hehehe
But is the card capable of running antennas on both connectors?

Have not got my hands on a SR5 yet, but as far as I can judge, it can use both connectors for our “Mickey Mouse setup”

yes, my question is related to TX power limits

I hope I will be able to test the mikey mouse configuration very soon

if anyone has tested…LET US HEAR!

P.S. I like the Mikey Mouse term to describe the configuration!

Glad I could help! HEHE
PS I have a copy rights on that so make sure you add the standerd disclamer before using it. hehe, damn I’ve drank tu march, good night guys. And good luck!

So just think of it…
Years from now, when some one refers to a “Mikey Mouse” wireless config.
You can say it started here !!

Jood Work Jober…

 :stuck_out_tongue:

Mickey Im, not, but I’ve had issues with the ufl connectors
and use only the mmcx on the ubiquiti’s. Ufl’s seem to not
like condensation.
