I am able to access the router using MAC, but not using IP address when using the Winbox tool.
Strangely, I can access through a browser to the same IP.
Any ideas why that is?

Winbox by default uses port number 8291 … check firewall filter rules if some is blocking access to that port, it’ll be for chain=input .
In other words,
Winbox works best by mac address and is magical even when IPs do not work and is how most use it, particularly because of that plus using the IP is time intensive…
If you do, the format is IP:portnumber
If you are still using 8291, dont, change it, I never use known default ports for anything if can be avoided.
I certainly don’t. Although all the routers I normally need to access are saved in winBox, should I need to access something that is not saved, it is FAR easier to remember an IP address that is laid out logically than trying to remember a MAC!

Port number only needed to be specified if not the standard. But I’m with anav on the last part - always use non-standard ports when able…
Too funny, I didnt know that K6ccc, I thought one always need the port#. In any case then its like quickset and people dont know how to do it when moving off 8291, shouldnt be automatic ![]()
