I have recently replaced my SXT-LTE with a new SXT-LTE6, which is externally mounted and in a difficult to reach position.
I had tested it couple of days on the latest long term RouterOS, before mounting it outside and everything was working fine with its default configuration. Then after mounting it outside, within couple of days i got intermittent internet blackouts. So i tried restarting it few times - that would fix the issue.
However after a few restarts - i could access it via WinBox on alternate time - so i could access it after 1,3,5 restarts but not after 2,4,6
I then tried resetting it - that didnt help - same thing again not able to connect alternate times.
Then i tried fiddling it with port speed setting - i kept the eth1 on 100M full and then lost the connection altogether. I can see my laptop ethernet (set to auto speed/dup) comes up but i cant access it via IP and MAC address now.
Has anyone come across such thing? and is there something you would suggest me to try to gain access?
The manual reset option would be a difficult one - as i dont have a ladder high enough to reach it.
.
I have setup the MacServer to All interface, RoMON is enable at All interface and I can use L2 connection without problem.
Connection via Layer3 is works too if you not enable the passthrough or enable it at custom vlan.

Auto-negotiation should just work, if not try use 10Mb HDX or FDX to reach connectivity or just use L2.

Enable RoMon, setup romon and macserver to all interface.
If you use pasthrough then use 2x vlan for mamt and passthrough traffic.
Hi Sib
Thanks for the quick revert. I just have the ethernet cable from the SXT reachable to me.
I tried using 10M Half Dup and 10M Full Dup, but i cant connect.
When i do 100M half dup, i can see the mac address appearing in the WinBox Neighbour field for a very short time. Upon hitting refresh it goes away and then comes back after few refreshes for 2-3 seconds. Does this suggest a faulty cable?
I tried connecting via Mac address and IP - but no luck
if you have Linux then you could do arping to check connectivity.
If you have other RouterBoard you can connect via telnet/mac/ssh/romon.
If you have any VirtualMachine Node then you can start x86/chr and connect from that.
If you have other cable try it.
If you have other PoE adapter then try it (802.3af/at, passive 12-57 V) or DC-Jack via long AC cable :).
If you can connect at least one time to it then please do one stuff:
That way, at every reboot the sxtr setup next-reboot as Try Ethernet - means you can do a netinstall every time when you reboot it. This is my rescue policy
I hope any of this can help you.
I have another RouterOS box, tried ping, mac ping, telnet - doesnt work
Try mac telnet, it starts login and password and then tries to connect and within 1 second it shows disconnected.
I tried ROMon but didnt get any success there too.
when arping & neightboors & L2 discovery not work then you cannot how to connect to remote device.
You should do a physical direct connectivity with device and fix problem.
I have not idea if your cable is to long, not have a proper specification, etc.
At forum is one case when someone change vendor power adaptor (24V Passive PoE) to UniFi PoE.at 48V and device start works responding what is proof of bad cable.
I know about one bug at WinBox about Layer2 connectivity. Neightboors discover device and I press Connect, WinBox show me disconnecting, I press Connect and then is connected. This 2x Connect is know to me but the apring’s and discovery device via romon/mac-telnet must works properly. If not then change PoE adaptor / Cable / Use “AC Extension cords” and use normal vendor Power Adapter.
Remember to change the Mac-Telnet/Mac-WinBox/RoMon ports to “all”.
Thanks Sid, I changed the poe adaptor, but still no good. The cable length should not be problem as I have been using same cable for my earlier sxt - lte. I think either the unit is faulty or the cable is not connected properly. I’ll get it down over the weekend to check.
It seems the cable was faulty. I took the sxt down connected with a different cable and it worked straight without resetting it. So I laid a new cable and it’s back in business. Thanks for your help Sid.
Apologies SiB
Yes I will do the RoMon enable and set all L2 engines on all interfaces.
Have another query on Carrier Aggregation- will start a new thread.
