Unable to login to "new" RB4011

I’ve set up several Mikrotik devices before, with complex configurations, so I’m not a newbie, but my new RB4011 has me stumped. I have access to the serial console and webfig, but cannot login as admin, using either no password or the password on the label on the bottom.

I’ve tried resetting it using the reset button, and also “r - reset booter configuration” (which probably doesn’t do what I want) and also using netinstall to install the latest software, 7.20.4 (although it looks like this tries to keep the current configuration), but I still can’t log in - it just doesn’t accept any password that I try.

Any ideas why the password on the label doesn’t work? This should be a brand new device, but I suppose it’s possible that I got a used one (in as-new condition) which someone had already changed the password on. Is there any other way to reset the password, given that I have full physical and serial console access to the device? TIA!

Right now using 7.20.4 is not the smartest idea, as it has been reported to have a number of issues, particualrly with webfig, but not only.
So you'd better use 7.19.4 or 7.19.6.
The label (it depends on production batches) is usually very hard to read and it is possible to make confusion between O/0, I/l/1, etc.
The usual advice is to take a picture of it, and enlarge it at least 3x, and then try the possible combinations of ambiguous characters.
There has been at least one reported case of a device that got the label exchanged in factory, but it remains very improbable.

You can netinstall without default configuration, that will set the password as blank, but before that check, re-check and triple check the password on the label (there should be a second label in the installation pamphlet/booklet).

Thanks! I discovered the -e option to netinstall which erased the configuration, allowing me to log in without a password, but then using the CLI to reset to the default configuration left me locked out again. The password has a letter O which I thought looked like a number zero, but entering it as a letter allowed me to log in. Thanks again
