I am unable to ping my router from the local ethernet - no firewall rules have been defined!!
What am I doing wrong…?

Most probably, you are not in the same subnet.

Sorry to ask this, but does the interface have an IP assigned and is enabled? What is the “local ethernet”? Not behind another router?
