I thought that I could always recuperate with the RESET button…
but I can’t anymore.
What I did:
1- Create a script that is based on the default configuration called My.rsc
2- using the Web application in the file menu uploaded My.rsc
3- imported script and I clicked “run after default” … something like that I don’t exactly remember…
Now the RB2011 does not respond to pinging 192.168.88.1, nor 192.168.77.1
Even after I hold the reset button after power-up, like I did 100 times before,
the RB2011 does not come back.
I don’t see a serial interface… I don’t know how to use NetInstall when the RB2011 is like that.
Thx for any help,
Martin Politick. My.rsc (7.22 KB)
please see routerboard.com for appropriate documentation of the router on how rest button works for this router. Or use reset hole (also described in documentation how it should work for the router)
I tried both methods as documented in the rb2011L-qg.pdf :
Buttons and Jumpers
• RouterBOOT reset button (image Reset1) has several functions:
Hold the button before powering on the device, and at power up, the button will force load the backup bootloader. Continue holding the button for the other two functions of this button:
Release the button when green LED starts flashing, to reset RouterOS configuration. To not load backup bootloader, you can start holding the button after power is already applied
Release the button after LED is no longer flashing (~20 seconds) to cause device to look for Netinstall servers
(required for reinstalling RouterOS over network)
• RouterOS reset jumper hole (image Reset2):
resets RouterOS software to defaults.
Hold screwdriver pressed to this reset hole, and boot the device.
Hold screwdriver in place until RouterOS configuration is cleared (10 seconds).
This did not reset the unit’s configuration.
But I also tried the NetInstall.exe and I was unable to make this work either. BUT NOTE: I was unable to make the NetInstall work on a second fully functional unit either!!!
I have tried on a Windows 7 and a Windows 8
I had the windows Firewall turned off on both
I had my NIC set to 192.168.1.1 & the remote set to 192.168.1.2 in NetInstall
Could someone tell me what port number NetInstall is listening on?
so I could do a “netstat -an” and see if it’s listening (or that there’s not another program already listening on that port)
Also what should I be looking for as far as packet traffic coming from the RB2011 when it’s booting PXE
when I’m using WireShark. This could be another way to see if the RB2011 is actually in PXE mode.
for that you have to set IP address that should be assigned to device that is going to be installed using a tool.
using what tool?
and I thought that is what setting the “remote” 192.168.1.2 in NetInstall was..
I thought that NetInstall was the tool that would supply that remote IP.
If I need to set this on the non-functional RB2011, well how when the RB2011 is not functional?
