Underclocking CPU, How?

hi guys,

I have celeron 2.8 GHZ which I want to underclock it to 800MHz, using P5PE mainboard or some other INTEL mainboard that I have already installed,

what’s the first step to do that? and what should I configure in Bios? and is there any setting from RouterOS that can be done?

and do you think that will reduce the amount of heat enough to use fanless CPU heatsink in closed enclosure without air ventilation inside the box?

thanks

i think google will be your friend in finding the solution to this. this is a mikrotik forum

hint: you can’t underclock it so low, and you have to look at the motherboards manual

yes, I’ve searched through,

there are some Linux and Windows softwares to do that.
but I was hearing that you can overclock 266mhz routerboard 500
to 400mhz

so I thought that Routeros has some option to do that which perhaps
can be used for underclocking?

at the other hand I am also seeking some advise from Mikrotik users
about whether it will help me for that matter on celeron cpu or not?

thanks for the reply

the software has nothing to do with this! you have to change the clock speeds in bios, or look for DIP switches on the board (or jumpers). routerboard is completely different kind of hardware.

perhaps there are things that we both don’t know
one thing that I did not understand was if Bios can control CPU speed
why should they make softwares to control it at software level?

check these three:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SpeedStep
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cool'n'Quiet
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Undervolting

that is something completely different! speedstep/coolnquiet is a method of power saving for laptops, only special drivers in windows know how to do this.

btw i googled for you, and found that this board is not support over/under clocking (in simple terms, the FSB is locked on this board).

thanks a lot
