Understanding STP

I have a VPN bridge between two Mikrotik 3.30 using PPTP tunnel with MRRU=1600 so it works like a true bridge, so I really have a single big network. On each side, the local lan is on the bridge with the PPTP tunnel.

I have RSTP turned on in the bridge on both sides, simply because the wiki said it was necessary for this type of bridge.

Now, since there are no redundant paths, is RSTP actually necessary… and if so, why? I thought STP was only necessary if there were multiple possible paths.

<LAN+PPTP BRIDGE> ----------pptp-tunnel--------------- <BRIDGE PPTP+LAN>

yes, in that case you do not need STP
