Without going into the legal merits and such, I always wondered what effects I should expect when I install an outdoor RB (for example) and leave the grounding lug ungrounded.
We normally install a link, see that it works, then wire up the grounding post with some heavy gauge ground wire into the nearest waterpipe/grounding post.
Has anybody ever did an install and left the grounding post unconnected?
Also, do you use shielded or unshielded UTP cables outdoors?
cibernet: Thanks for answering. We do ground them, but was wondering what could happen if we didn’t?
How long does static build up take to start affecting a board? Are we talking hours after poweron, or days/weeks?
Would it affect performance due to some form of static build up?
My question arises because we tend to install the grounding wire AFTER we have set up and tested the boards in place, and I wanted to make sure we’re not getting bad results due to the lack of grounding.
Where do you ground the FTP cable? Board side (outdoors), PoE side (indoors) or both?
Hi, the wind charge with static the tower, antenna, outdoor box, etc deppend the days, you have to ground the tower too. It may affect performance without ground. The cable, i grounded it in PoE side. Nothing will happen if you install the grounding wire after you set up and tested the boards, but don´t take too much time. HAPPY CHRISTMAS!!
