I have been struggling with internet slowdowns for a couple of months. I noticed that my PPP usage is 6mbps when the slow downs occur, and that is my maximum download speed from my ISP. I disconnected all devices 1 at a time to see which one was using all of the bandwidth, and to my surprise, even once I had removed all clients, the connection was still fully utilized. A reboot of the routerboard clears the issue for a couple of days.
