I am not only new to RouterOS but brand new to a managed switch so please I am sorry for the idiocy that will be coming.
I started with Unraid about a year ago and built a small rack server in my home it has been a blast but the more I go the more i see how much i have to learn.
So my next move was to learn pfSense since it the de-facto firewall/router in Unraid forums and dockers. Also I follow a wonderful YouTuber named NetworkChuck who made a video on why I should start using pfSense. While doing the research on the hardware I would need I found a forum post of people ditching pfSense for MikroTik (RouterOS) and how much happier they where and I also found it would be cheaper so it just made sense.
So I bought a MikroTik RB2011UiAS-RM and I am so impressed but I now have a problem and have no idea how to solve it.
My Unraid server is not accessible via the network so I lost all Dockers running like Plex and Jellyfin.
Please if I could be pointed the right direction I would really appreciated.
…the RB2011 is not a managed switch, but a router and I gather you’d want it to be that way.
Your problem has nothing to do with Mikrotik, pfsense or unraid…my best guess is, you messed up your IP-Network scheme when swapping a pfsense for the RB2011.
Without knowing what your setup should look like, there is not much to help.
Did you run your pfsense in a VM on unraid (bad idea…this absolutely has no WAF) or standalone?
If the latter, simply configure your RB2011 as a router, set its internal IP and DHCP-Server to the same IP of your pfsense LAN and this should get you going with the RB2011 as a replacement.
However, if your setup is more complex, draw us a diagram (www.draw.io).
No I did not have pfsense what I meant to say was I was looking at pfsense and routeros and I chose routeros.
Did not really have anything setup all I had was a ProSafe GS724TPS switch.
I did notice that the only thing not working is the Unraid Server which aslo is the only thing in my network with a Static IP, I assume that is the problem.
Now I have it setup this way:
SPECTRUM MODEM
MikroTik RB2011UiAS-RM
ProSafe GS724TPS
DEVICES
Again Thanks for saying something I really really appreciated.
…so you did not use a pfsense before but unraid and Dockers on it had been setup and had a working state?
Then, what did your setup look like before (without the RB2011) and what is the IP and netmask of your unraid server?
Must be something like modem .- non-MT router - switch - unraid.
Is your internet access working (modem + RB2011)?
