I have configured the RB951 (RouterOS v6.44) with bridges to the outside world on ether1-2 and ether4-5 and the LAN on ether3 and the WiFi port. The bridges perform DHCP client requests and receive responses as expected. There is an odd anomaly where behind the scenes the secondary home connection, even though tagged as 10 hops away, takes over the default route from the nearer (1 hop) primary home. But I presume that happens when the ISP switches IP address (at unpredictable times, so it’s hard to figure that out properly) on the interface. No use arguing with such dunderheads.
What I am now pressed to fix is the flood of DHCP requests the DHCP server serving the LAN is receiving from the Ethernet addresses associated with ether2 and ether3. The DHCP server is connected only to port 3 (I hesitate to be affirmative about this, I find wiring sometimes just doesn’t obey one’s plan for it, I’ve had to eat my words on enough occasions to know that wiring mistakes are easy to make). It reports DHCP client requests from these Ethernet addresses - that it has no option but to reply to - every few seconds and the logs are being flooded with the request and reply details, but nothing further; presumably the response is not accepted by whatever DHCP client is asking for it.
My wish is merely to end this behaviour. But I cannot find any manner in which such DHCP clients are activated, so I hope someone on this forum knows what I ought to be looking for or at.
Much appreciated.
Lucio.
