Does anyone know if there is a way to get the dns-update tool to update the domain zone rather than the subdomain specified by the name parameter? Previously I’ve used the tool available at http://ipupdate.sf.net to perform this task but it’d be excellent if I could do it with my mikrotik. The ipupdate tool allows the use of an “@” in the subdomain field, this symbol is then translated into an empty name value in the update packet.
I’ve attached a packet capture produced with ipupdate showing an update including two subdomains “www” and “*”, as well as the blank name which updates the main domain.
This may be more of a feature request than a bug report. Either allowing the name parameter to be optional or allow the use of a special character to indicate that it should be blank would be awesome. Unless there’s a way to perform this task with the current dns-update tool and I’m simply unware of how to do it.
