We have a router that has some corruption on the compact flash that it boots from. It is mounted on a tower and we do not want to have to take it down. Winbox will not load due to some missing files.
It is running 3.30. We would like to do an upgrade using FTP and telnet to 4.5 to see if we can rebuild the file system doing the upgrade.
How can you update a license without winbox? Is it possible using telnet and ftp?
No, only Winbox allows updating license and MT does not plan on changing that.
I cant say for sure, but in an ssh console, /system license import filename=licence.key.
I think you can get the license keys from the website.
Never tried, though.
if while loading it is showing errors, i would suggest to reinstall router altogether and then upgrade key usual way.
If you are able to set up network boot from RouterOS, do that and then do netinstall from base of tower, so no climbing necessary. (just driving to base of tower). That is if you have leads to base of tower.
