Updating Firmware

Why does it take a manual “routerboard” update (System, Routerboard, Update) after a Auto Firmware Update (Quickset)? What is the difference between them and the cons if you don’t do the manual?

The confusion can happen when the Programmers may not perform the manual Routerboard update simply because they are not aware it has to be done. Why can’t the Auto Firmware upgrade via Quickset do both?

The quickset Upgrade works well…

I’m not sure if its a safety issue in the event that a upgrade were to fail or if its just to provide the customer with the option to upgrade on their own. But until Mikrotik decides to change this behavior its something we all have to do. I built a script and run it at a time that would result in minimal disruption of service and it checks the current version vs upgrade version and if it has a newer version it performs the routerboard upgrade and reboots. If you would like to check the script out let me know.

Automatic upgrading is very dangerous.

I always update the firmware but i reboot manually when i want to so i can reboot all routerboards/embedded devices at once and have minimal downtime. I also get to choose between stable, beta or rc.

To update simply drag the packages into the root directory of the routerboard store. You can do this via files, FTP
