Updating old versions of RouterOS

Hi All,

I am relatively new to RouterOS.

I am looking for links/information for a stepped/incremental update strategy so as to break as little as possible.

I found some routers with old RouterOS versions. Ouch. OK, let’s get them updated to 6.40.8.

I searched the forum and wiki. Being relatively new to RouterOS, perhaps I am not seeing the obvious. The routers:

RB750Gr3 6.6.1
RB2011 6.9
RB750 6.9
RB750 6.21.1
RB2011 6.39.2

Any notable caveats to be aware when updating such older versions? Better to bench prep a spare router and then replace in the field?

Thanks much.

Those are not considered very old, you can directly upgrade to the latest version. Even upgrade from v5 should work OK.

In my experience, if you upgrade from (much) older versions using System > Packages > ‘Check for updates’ menu (ie: not manually uploading the packages to the router), it will first upgrade to an intermediate version and then you have to perform another upgrade to get to the latest version.

I haven’t had any issues with even upgrading from 5.26 to 6.40+

Okeydokey. Thanks!
