upgrade 5.26 to 6.x on a rb751

I’ve noticed that there was a new ver of ros out, the auto upade did not show anything (v5) so dl the most up to date v5.26 and manual installed & it rebooted (auto) OK. Still no action on auto update. Checked the firmware and updated (auto worked here v2.x->3.09) that but no reboot.

Auto update is still showing nothing for ros.

Can I manually to v6 in the same way?

Will I lose any configuration stuff or will it just continue without me needing to make any changes as it did with the v5.x->5.26?

Thanx

The only ques I have r the default ones I think in interface ques.

  1. The ruterboard must be connected to Internet and have DNS working “:put [resolve google.com]”

  2. Version prior to 5.20 can not auto detect new RouterOS versions

  3. You can not auto upgrade from 5.x to 6.x (from 6.x to 7.x and so on), only manual downoad upgrade package routeros-mipsbe-6.11.npk and drag into file folder and reboot from /system reboot, and not simply disconnect and reconnect power

  4. When you upgrade the BIOS [firmware] you must reboot for that taking effect.

  5. read n. 3)

  6. Yes, you can manually update with the right package (routeros-mipsbe-6.11.npk)

  7. The only thing you lose are some of queue on /queue tree where are use global-in or global-out as target [on 6.x only global (ex global-total) exist]. The simple queue remain untouched.

:sunglasses: Remember to upgrade BIOS [firmware] to 3.13* after install of 6.11

  • = For other users who read: some other models than 751 have available BIOS only to 3.12 or 3.10

Remember to backup all with one “backup” click on file menu and with command “/export compact file=751backup” and put both files outside the routerboard.

Worked just fine - no changes needed.
Don’t know why the auto stuff did not work, will look into the auto later.

Thanks to you.

The “auto stuff” are not on the system / auto upgrade / “refresh” button,
but on the system / packages / “check for updates” button.

For working RB must be connected on internet AND must have working DNS configured [like 8.8.8.8 on IP / DNS menu]

Have a nice day.
