Upgrade from CCR1036-8G-2S+ to CCR2004-16G-2S+ for BGP: Worth it

Hi everyone,

I’m thinking about upgrading my router for better BGP performance and I’m thinking about changing my CCR1036-8G-2S+ to CCR2004-16G-2S+

My current setup:

  • I have two CCR-1009-7G-1C-1S+ devices doing CGNAT/PPoE, connected to a CCR1036-8G-2S+ that handles BGP.

  • My current provider has 1,400 subscribers and expects to reach 2,500.

  • My current traffic is around 3GB, but I have a 4GB contract and will upgrade to 5.5GB at the end of the year, possibly reaching 7GB in a year.

  • Currently, I have 16 BGP sessions open.

My goals:

  • I expect to gain better performance, more resources, etc.

  • My main priorities are stability, scalability, and performance.

I’m looking for advice on which router would be the best fit for my needs. Specifically, I’m wondering:

  • Which model offers better BGP performance?

  • Is the upgrade to the CCR2004 worth the cost?

  • What are the main differences between the two models in terms of BGP features and performance?

  • Has anyone made this upgrade before and can share their experiences?

[*]I would like to point out that I don’t need to purchase a new CCR2004-16G-2S+ as I already have one that I’m not currently using.

Thanks in advance for your help!
