I have an old Mikrotik 751U-2HnD which has routerOS ver 5.7 packages on it.
I have upgraded its firmware from 2.36 to 3.41 successfully.
I copied routeros-mipsbe-7.8.npk on it successfully, but, I can not upgrade to v7.8 because of the following problems:
1. I can not use Winbox later than v3.11 (because of the fetch index problem) and it can not restore the package files and hang when I use this Winbox version and click on restore. 2. There is no system package upgrade command for v5.7 version when I connect to its console ( please see the attached screenshot )
So, How can I upgrade this RB751 to the last version? What is the package upgrade command for routerOS v5.7?
Thank you for your response.
But, the main problem is that it can not update to any version because of Winbox restore hanging or lack of upgrade commands.
Do you remember how did you upgrade to 6.X versions?
Thank you for your good responses.
I did following these steps:
But, my netinstall software can not find my Mirotik even if it is connected to my computer directly (with no switch or router in between)
Now, I have 2 questions:
The ethernet 1 on my Mikrotik is POE and can not assign 192.168.88.1 to itself, should I assign this IP manually to this port?
I have tried this with ethernet 2 on my Mikrotik but still can not detect it.
Why does that step-by-step manual enter 192.168.88.3 in the Network Booting Setting form when there is no 3rd device connected to the Mikrotik or PC? (See attachment)
because is supposed you set the fixed ip 192.168.88.2 / 255.255.255.0 to the pc
and the 192.168.88.1 is used on default configuration after the routerboard is installed with the new software
fast instructions: disable all other network interfaces on PC (bluetooth, wireless, vm, vpn, etc.)
in the used ethernet set 192.168.88.2 / 255.255.255.0 as IPv4 without gateway or dns
start now netinstall with the settings on picture
press the reset button, keep it pressed, connect power / poe to the ether1
keep reset pressed until you do not see the device on netinstall
select the device and install
If you have some troubles search the anav guide to netinstall on the forum
Some have more luck with netinstall using Linux (yep, that includes me!).
Some use a dumb switch between PC and device to be netinstalled and reported more success that way as well.
I’ve had good success running an Ubuntu VM with VirtualBox using Bridged networking on a Windows machine where it wouldn’t work on the Windows machine itself, also I see there’s also a Container that someone has made, which runs on arm-based MikroTiks (uses qemu to run the x86 netinstall-cli), which apparently works great too, although I haven’t needed to use that yet
Thank you for your great instruction.
I did those steps as you mentioned and after clicking on install button I got the screenshot state (which got me "Ready" status) but still my Mikrotik version is on v5.7!
Should I do some other steps after getting "Ready" status?
Unfortunately it is possible it takes a few tries (on Windows, never saw it happening on Linux).
Close Netinstall and open again. If device does not reappear on itself, power off device and keep pressing reset until the device appears again in netinstall.
Select the required package (you only have 1), select device and then Install.
