I have a intel based HS server running 2.9.51 for a large number of users. It really never gives me any problems. except a few times when it was under lots of load and the hotspot splash page would stop showing until I rebooted (prob the built in HTTPd server crashd).
but like i said that is minor issue and only happened for a few days about a year ago.
ive read the change logs all the way from 2.9.51 on, can anyone shed any incite on this upgrade and if its worth it. ive used all 3 route os but only hotspot on this one.
has anyone upgrade a 2.9.51 Hotspot server to v3 or v4 and had problems or advantages?
How many users do you have?
If everything is fine, new features are not required and there is huge number of HotSpot clients on router, which is working few years without problems. Perhaps it is better to leave it as it is.
Dear Friend
l also have a 2.9.51 on a server serving 250 hotspot users with 500kbps each. The system is as solid as diamond. This is running on PIV 3.0G 2G ram and 80g hard rive. no proxy .It never freezes or crashes .l once upgraded this server to 3 and later 4 it then started crashing .the hotspot page will not show requiring a reboot .for large number of hotspot users the 2.9 is the most stable version. All the others can handle only very small number like 10-50.Please you can try the upgrade but l advice you to be on the stand by and critically monitor the service .
Hi Jo2jo, seem we have a same problem
I’v upgraded my hotspot server 2.9.51 to 4.5. but then it become not not stable. in a random time and situation, suddenly users can’t browse, can’t login even they get an ip address from server.
routing was okey, just they can’t get a login page. can’t browse walled garden site
then i’v downgraded it to 3.30, but still have a same problem.
my hotspot topology are intel base with bridged vlan and vrrp for backup, and using external login page server.
