Upgrade RB

Ok we now I have caused myself a problem!!

I was upgrading routers using Dude one evening. from V3.?? to 4.11

After upgrading 12 of them I thought I went back to everyone of them through winbox and updated there license.

Friday night I had a tower go down on me. So Saterday we drove to the site Power was on but could not get to one of the RB on the tower!! Went to the office got another RB And climed the 400’ Tower and replaced it. now Monday morning and usiing serial port to the RB from the tower this is what I get.

Demo license expired!
Please reinstall the router.

System halted.

“Looks Like I missed updating one of the License” WHAT DO I DO NOW??

Thanks

Reinstall with netinstall.

Next time, update to 3.30 and later to 4.11..

Yeah I had a similar event.

So far this month I have had two RB112 expire their licenses. This is not very fair. These units have been in place for years with no software updates except for the board being upgraded to 3.30. What is up with the license expiring. There is absolutely no reason why these two boards have cost me another $45.00 per RB license.

What is the procedure/policy to implement on my network so this does not occur again? DO I need to update the license and RBs to 4.11 for all devices? If so is this going to happen again? Is their a possibility to reinstall the RBs or recover these boards so that I do not have to purchase the licenses?

If any one has any clues on this please let me know thanks.

Normis, there was some kind of ‘popup’ on Download page, about license upgrade between v3 and v4… maybe it has a sense to make some link with red exclamation “If you want to upgrade from v3 to higher version, click here for license upgrade details”?..

Actually Chupaka, These units were never upgraded to 4.x. They have been the same setup of 3.30 since that firm had came out. I figured that they were just RB112 and that they did not really need to be upgraded to the 4.X so I left them at that firm for quite some time. I know that if you do upgrade them to 4.X that you only have 24 hour or 72 hour ( I forget) before the license expires. But in this case; the RB have been at 3.30 and when they gave a problem I logged on and I saw that they had an expired License. Yes I was able to recover by swapping the units and renewing the licenses but that cost me each time I had this occur. Being that we are a smaller operation of 800 customers I am the sole person to do the upgrades. We are moving them all to the 4.11. I fear that I will come across this issue again. Just wondering if there is a legitimate way to have my already paid licenses be renewed in this scenario. I am not looking for a hand out but I believe that if we paid for the ROS then they should not expire on us.

Any ways due to this we may shift platforms if this becomes an annual or subscribed ROS because it is not cost effective to buy a RB and then have to pay for the ROS again later on down the line. Well I doubt it would come to that just need some reassurance that that is not the route MT is going to take.

Ok just venting.

Hello, could somebody tell me if I can “safely” upgrade my RB112 to MT 4.11 (actually I’ve 3.30) - there is new key (8 digits, but upgradeable to v3.x). Best regards.

If it is only upgradable to 3.x then it isn’t safe to upgrade to 4.x

you cannot upgrade to v4 then. after reboot, you will see error messages in Log, the version will remain 3.30

you need to buy new license to use v4 and upper
