I have RB493 running on ROS 4.17 and I’m using User Manager to authorize several hotspots.
I have 1300+ generated users, some activated, some not.
How to safely upgrade that RB to new 5.7 ROS and not loose User manager database?

Make a full backup [ file / backup in winbox ] and export it into your PC. Now do the upgrade. If things go wrong you have a full backup in store. You can use the backup in the file window. But if you need to rebuild your router (see next) than better to use the backup you copied to your PC.
If things went down because of new 5.7 bug, than you have to upload the lower packages (like 5.6 or back to 4.17 and instead of reboot go to the package menu and click on “downgrade” After the downgrade you can upload your backup again into the file window and restore it.
But it is wise to have the backup uploaded into a similar hardware router and try the upgrade on that one. Now you can see if there is anything that is going wrong. If not you can try your ´live´ box. No guarantees but it makes the change something going wrong on your live box much smaller.

I also need to upgrade version from 4.17 to 5.8 is there any problem.
My user manager data base is 200MB
after a tray to import it in virtual computer import always crash
Hi there,
if you really don’t have to, don’t upgrade your 4.17 userman to 5.8.
You will have a lot of manual work adding profiles to existing users, web and telnet views are not in line, some things can’t be done via telnet.
Maybe you should wait until those things are implemented/fixed.

I agree, if you have a running User Manager system, refrain from upgrade. v5 has a completely different User Manager and migration is not easy.
What is a reason, to be made updatable version of ROS when it is incompatible with previous one?
It is not a problem to do some terminal work, and reenter all 7000+ users with limitations,
it is not so hard it can be done with EXCEL.
but without logs all they will start with reset timers.
What should I do if law enforcement agencies (police) arrived,
to tell them that “I’m sorry but I can provide logs, because they are not compatible with version 5.xx”
write some external tool to convert this *.UMB files to user manager ver 5.x

I upgrade my routeros 3.22 to 5.5 now I have problem with userman (I can not import old db)
now I want to user API to import old db to new db but I can not set time left or credit left
what should I do?
