Upgrade to 5.14 / RB1100 not booting anymore.

Hello,

I tried to upgrade a RB1100 from version 5.11 to 5.14.
Downloaded the zip stable file, extracted everything and sent to router using winbox (v2.2.18).
Clicked System → Reboot.

After that, i didn’t get a “router disconnected”. It did freeze for some time and then i closed winbox and tried to open again, no success.
I was monitoring the router ip using ping, like always. It just didn’t boot anymore.
Then after 30 minutes, i tried to disconnect from AC, no boot.
Then tried the reset button… Still it does not boot.
I can’t access the router board using default configuration nor my usual configuration.

I have 3 topic questions:

  1. Is it safe to upgrade a “stable” release? What recomendations (i always do backups and also use a script to backup to my email) What is the safe way to upgrade. It WOULD be VERY NICE if the Router load the previous system if it fails to upgrade. (Like you have it in some PC BIOS)

  2. How do i recover my RB1100 ?? Is there a way to force a OS reinstall?? What do i need?

  3. What if i upgrade only the system package and let the other packages stay in old version util it reboot and then after a system upgrade i then upgrade the packaged? too bad?

I checked on wiki about upgrading, but it shows old website style, not updated.

I still need answers for questions 1 and 3.

Some routers of my customer are aprox. 1200 KM far away and i am worried about upgrading it remotely.

I always cross my fingers when doing an upgrade remotely as it can crash. If it crashes you need to get into the car and go to site. My advice would be to only do it if you have to.

You cannot run different versions of packages when you update.
